Recorded history has an honesty problem. The historical AI foundation was built while women of color were systematically kept out of the field. Alan Turing
1912–1954
This wing is the women's. But it rests on a foundation, and one of its architects was Alan Turing — who imagined the machine itself, and the test we still use to ask whether it thinks. In 1952, the country he had helped save prosecuted him for being gay and chemically castrated him — the price of staying out of prison. He was dead within two years; it took Britain half a century to apologize. He is not a MAiVEN — he is the reason so many of them had a machine to build on, and a reminder that brilliance has been erased here for who you love as much as what you are. We keep his name lit, too.
